Our home office is located at the front of our house and its’ large windows face the street. One of the major issues we had with our office prior to our makeover was that when we were sitting at our desk, we were on display for all passersby to see. We had honeycomb blinds on the windows, but if we wanted privacy, we had to have them fully closed, blocking out most all of the sunlight. We love having sunlight streaming in through the windows, but we desperately wanted privacy.
I’ve always loved the classic look of wood shutters and I knew they would be the perfect solution to our problem when I was creating the design plan for our office. Not only are window shutters visually appealing from the inside AND outside of the house, but you can tilt the louvers for privacy while still allowing the sunlight to stream in.After doing a little bit of research, I decided to go with Blinds.com for our wood shutters. They have an amazing selection, but I didn’t have a clue which ones I should choose. Luckily their designers are super helpful and expertly guided me in selecting the best option for our space, which was the Signature Wood Shutter in Bright White. They also walked me through how to properly measure our windows so that our custom shutters would fit perfectly. One of the issues I had was that our desk overlaps one of the windows, so I was concerned that we wouldn’t be able to fully swing the shutters open. Together, the Blinds.com designer and I decided to have the hinges switched on the left window to allow the shutters to still swing open. It’s not the traditional way to have shutters swing open, but I love that we had the option of customizing them to work for our space. I generally won’t have them open anyways, I just wanted to be able to swing them open to clean and open/close the windows.I honestly have nothing but great things to say about these shutters. They are beautiful, the quality is superb and the installation was a cinch. But best of all, I love that I can close the bottom half for privacy and still keep the top open to let the sunlight in!Here’s a short video I made to tell you even more about our new shutters!Disclosure: I partnered with Blinds.com for this post and was given the shutters to review. I did not receive additional payment for this post. I absolutely love their product and wouldn’t use it in my home or write about it if I didn’t. None of the links are affiliate links.
