Last week, I mentioned that for various reasons I had never put up any decorations for the Fourth of July in our home. After gathering some inspiration, which I shared HERE, I finally pulled together some festive decor for our mantel this year.I kept it pretty simple, using items we already had at home. The only thing I ended up purchasing was the little flag from the dollar store.
Like I’ve said before, I tend to keep most of the main elements the same on our mantel year round, like the mirror, shutters and book page wreath and I just change out different small accessories as the seasons change. To give our mantel an Americana look, I stuck a flag in a white pitcher with some some faux boxwood and propped up the vintage #3 railroad mile marker against my typesetting drawer. When I think of things that represent America, I often think of baseball, so I borrowed a bunch of my kids’ baseballs and put them in a vase atop a stack of books. Two other free things I added were a printout of the lyrics to America the Beautiful and a quick chalk sketch of the American flag. I put all of the decor up on our mantel a few days ago and it’s already almost time to take it down! Thankfully it’s pretty neutral decor, so I might just leave it up for a few more weeks 🙂
