When we moved into our house 5 years ago, our master bedroom was the first room I decorated. It was also the project that inspired me to start this blog. While our bedroom decor hasn’t had any major changes since then, my photography skills have changed a lot since I first started blogging. So I thought it was time I showed you an updated tour of our master bedroom with some good quality pictures.
I recently made these two “You are My Sunshine” signs hanging on our wall. I love adding meaningful, personal touches to a space and I chose those lyrics for my signs because I’ve been calling Jacob “Sunshine” way back since we first started dating. He really does make me happy when skies are grey. The vintage water jug holds spare change so that we don’t end up with piles of loose change on other surfaces. This was something my parents also had in their bedroom as I was growing up and we’ve just continued the tradition.Yes, we do have a TV in our room, but it really only gets used in the mornings by the kids as I get ready in the bathroom. I like to keep them close by so they don’t get into too much mischief.I love the French script slipper chair. It was a great Costco find a few years ago. It hasn’t found a permanent home yet as I keep moving it around the house, but I think I like it in our bedroom the best.Next to my dresser, I keep a big basket of books for the kids. We read bedtime stories to the three of them in our bed every night and this helps keep them from leaving their books all over our room.My two favorite things in our room are the oars hanging above our bed and the bed my husband built. The oars belonged to my step-dad and I hand-painted 719 on them, which is our wedding date. That shell in the cloche is one I found at the bottom of the Puget Sound when I was 14 and scuba diving with my dad. It’s got some cracks in it from when it fell off the shelf during an earthquake, but it’s a pretty special memento of mine 🙂
Obviously I love a beachy look. I tried not to go too ‘theme-y’ but sometimes I think it might be a bit over the top. The good thing is that it’s a room that hardly anyone but us sees, so I’m not in a hurry to change anything.
