After finally convincing my hubby to let me buy the Ikea Hemnes Entertainment Center,
it took me quite a while to accessorize it.
I didn’t just want to fill it up for the sake of just filling it up.
I wanted it to look pretty, but also contain items that are meaningful to us as a family.
I also didn’t want to spend much money.
So I shopped around our house for most of the items
and filled in the rest of the bookcases with a few other minor purchases.

It may have taken me a while to fill up,
but I absolutely love how the unit has the ‘collected over time’ look
and that most of the items were things I already had around the house.
This looks so wonderful! I love how you took a popular piece of furniture and really personalized it with family pictures and vacation items. Plus, I absolutely love thrift store and you incorporated your found objects in such a great way. I found your link on DIY Showoff and am now following your blog.

i have been following your ideas for this unit for inspiration, and we just came home with our very own ikea centre! just a quick question for you — did you have a hard time getting the mounted unit on the wall? after about three frustrating hours tonight we have given up. did you struggle with yours and have any tips about getting it on the wall?
We didn’t actually mount the bridge to the wall. We attached it to the two sides using the brackets that were included. We screwed the brackets to the bridge while it was on the floor and then my husband held it up in place while I screw the brackets into the tops of the side cabinets. Hope that helps!
